Beauty & Skincare Q&A

In November's Makeup Magic Monday, Tricia and Sally answer the audience's beauty and skincare questions. They discuss everything from eyebrows, to pores, to contouring! And as always Sally offers us some fantastic demonstrations. Watch the video above or scroll below to see an overview of the questions answered at the event...

Q: How can I improve the look of drooping brows and hooded eyelids?

Q: How can I improve the look of drooping brows and hooded eyelids?

  • If your brows are taking up too much of your eyelid area, this can add to the 'drooping' effect. Try waxing or threading some out of the area beneath your brow to give some lift
  • Do not pull or stretch the skin when you apply your eye makeup. Let your face sit as it naturally does, and then use a mid-dark tone Eye Shade to create a socket crease where it should be if your lid was not hooded. This will give the illusion of a stronger eye socket
  • Avoid using a light coloured Eye Shade on the hooded part of your eyes as this will make it appear more prominent

Q: How can I reduce the look of pores, which show through my foundation?

  • Always avoid scrubbing at the skin, as damaged skin is prone to bigger pores. Instead, use a flannel and a good quality Cleanser to gently exfoliate and clean the skin
  • Dry skin shows pores more. Ensure you keep your skin hydrated with a Serum and moisturised with a Day Cream
  • Our Smooth Like Silk Face Prime really does work at minimising the appearance of pores. For those that find they can still see their pores through their foundation, try applying Face Prime first, and then also mixing the Face Prime with your Foundation for an extra helping hand

Q: Ageing brings yellowing teeth, what colour lipstick should I wear to offset this?

Q: Ageing brings yellowing teeth, what colour lipstick should I wear to offset this?

  • If you have cool or neutral toned skin, things are quite simple! Cool toned lipsticks are formulated with a blue undertone to flatter your skin shade, and blue will counteract the yellow in your teeth and make it less noticable
  • Those with warm skin have a bit more of a challenge because the orange undertone of some warmer shades of lipstick can enhance the look of the yellow in your teeth
  • Our Soft Coral Lustrous Colour Lipstick is a good option, as  it does have a little blue running through it. You could also opt for a more muted or nude warm shade like Soft Cinnamon or Tawny Beige

Q: My hair is white and my eyebrows contain white hairs, which colour Bring Back Brow Shape should I choose?

  • If you only have a handful of white hairs in your brows, you could always pluck those anomalies out!
  • You should match your Brow Shape to your darkest eyebrow hairs
  • Don't forget - it's the Spoolie Brush that does all the work! Whichever colour you opt for, apply it with a light hand and ensure you brush the brows through with the Spoolie after application. This will soften the overall effect and make it appear more natural

Q: How do I use under-eye concealer correctly?

Q: How do I use under-eye concealer correctly?

  • Your under-eyes are very delicate so cleanse with a very gentle cleanser such as our Cleansing Lotion (avoid anything that foams as this will dry your skin out more!), and very gently exfoliate with a warm flannel
  • When applying your concealer, the key rule is ‘No Dragging!’. You should pat the concealer into your skin with the warmth of your ring finger until you are happy with how it has blended in. This is easy to achieve with Cover to Cover Concealer because it has a rich, creamy texture
  • Ensure you get a good night’s sleep and stay as hydrated as you can
  • Take a look at our video and article all about under-eye concealer here

Q: As I've gotten older my face has lost shape and structure. How can I bring shape back to my face?

Bronzer_png
  • You MUST be careful when contouring to ensure you create a subtle look
  • Our Enduring Summer Bronzer is actually perfect for creating a soft, contoured effect because it’s not too orange and it’s not very dark
  • You can therefore take a little of our Bronzer with a light hand and sweep it under your cheekbones, under your jawline and across the top of your forehead to create the illusion of a more defined facial structure
  • You can also bring more desirable areas of your face forwards by adding light with our Instant Bright Highlight. Pop this at the top of your cheekbones and under the arch of your brow

Q: How do I apply eye cream effectively? How much, where and when?

Q: How do I apply eye cream effectively? How much, where and when?

  • Eye cream is a skincare hero and you should use it every single night to get its best effect
  • Use your ring finger to gently pat the cream in. Don’t rub the skin in this area as it is so delicate
  • Tap the cream into the whole of your under-eye area, down to the socket bone. Start from the inner corner of your eye and work outwards, coming right up in a crescent moon shape to apply some to your orbital bone too
  • You can apply the cream to your eyelids if you wish, but you may find this causes you filmy eyes and it’s not really necessary

Q: I have no eyebrows at all, how do I use the Bring Back Brow Shape to create brows from scratch?

Brows_2_png
  • Take a Spoolie Brush and hold it diagonally against the side of your nose at the bottom and along the outermost point of your eye at the top. This is where the end of your eyebrow should be
  • Now hold the brush vertically against the side of your nose so that it points straight upwards. This is where the start of your eyebrow should be
  • Finally, hold your brush diagonally against the side of your nose again, but this time hold it so that the brush crosses the centre of your iris. This is where your brow ‘arch’ should be
  • Now that you know the shape and dimensions that your brows should take, you can begin ‘creating’ brow hairs using the ultra-fine Bring Back Brow Shape brush. Use light feathery strokes which emulate real brow hairs
