Here's the Order You Should Apply Your Makeup In

Ever wondered if you're really applying your makeup in the right order? Mature makeup artist Sally is here to set the record straight...

1. FACE PRIME

- Minimises pores and fine lines

- Creates the perfect skin texture for makeup to cling to, keeping it in place all-day

2. COLOUR BALANCE NEUTRALISER

- Neutralise any red patches or broken capillaries using the green shade

- Disguise any dark circles or age spots using the peach shade

3. FOUNDATION OR BEAUTY BALM

- Opt for beauty balm for a lighter finish or foundation for fuller coverage

- Buff into the skin using a foundation brush

4. CONCEALER

- Apply to any areas that need extra coverage, plus anywhere you applied colour balance neutraliser

- Use a concealer brush to apply and blend in using fingertips

5. TRANSLUCENT POWDER

- Sets makeup into place and prevents movement

- Blurs texture for an airbrushed finish

6. EYE PRIME

- Neutralises any redness or visible veins in the eyelids

- Keeps eyeshadow in place all day

7. LIP PRIME

- Apply to the outer edges of your lips to ‘seal them’

- Prevents lipstick from feathering or bleeding into fine lines

8. BROW SHAPE (ONLY IF YOU HAVE NO EYEBROWS!)

- If you have very sparse or non-existent brows, create them using brow shape now

- This will help to inform the placement of your eyeshadows and liner

9. EYE SHADOW

- Take a shadow blending brush and apply your choice of eye shades

- Use a wedge brush and your darkest chosen shade to line your eyes

10. MASCARA

- Opens up the eyes and defines lashes

- Apply a couple of coats for maximum lift

11. BROW SHAPE (IF YOU HAVE SOME NATURAL BROW HAIRS)

-Comb your brow hairs using a spoolie brush before and after application

- Use light, feathery strokes to achieve a natural brow look

12. HIGHLIGHTER

- Non glittery formula flatters mature faces

- Apply anywhere you’d like to elevate and emphasise

13. BRONZER

- Apply using a kabuki brush and a light hand

- Warms up anywhere the sun would naturally hit

14. BLUSHER

- Place just above the apples of your cheeks using your fingertips

- Blend out using a blusher brush

15. LIPSTICK

- Line your lips first using a lip brush

- Fill the centre of your lips straight from the bullet, blot, and apply a second coat

16. LIPGLOSS

- Creates a fuller looking pout

- Swipe into the centres of your lips to contour them
