When you have some kind of ‘do’ to which you’re invited, do you prepare by trying on various options in your wardrobe in order to decide which works best for that occasion? I am going to give you two scenarios separated by 12 months and 10kgs in weight. Scenario one was in June 2023 and I’d decided that one of my many lightweight summer jackets would work well over smart trousers and a matching top for my special occasion. To my shock and despair none of the jackets fitted me any more which I resignedly put down to the way that my 76 year old body was changing shape as it aged. My arms were bigger, my breasts heavier and my waist had all but disappeared to be replaced by a rounded tummy.

Although at least half of the clothes in my wardrobe no longer fitted me, I hung on to them nostalgically whilst not truly believing that I’d ever be able to wear them again.

Then in February I had a health scare which, thankfully, scans and blood tests eventually showed was not caused by anything serious like ovarian cancer, but which left me with bloating, stomach and digestive discomfort and a fatty liver. My solution was to see if I could feel better on a high fat, high protein and low carbohydrate regime.  I have already shared my 800 Fast weight loss journey with you (link here to Losing My Wellness Guru)  which reached its destination last Saturday when my scales showed that I’d lost a total of 10kgs in 3 months and was now at my target weight. To say that I feel better is an under-statement - I feel like a new woman!

And to celebrate, I experienced my second scenario when I decided to see if there were any outfits that had been hanging in my wardrobe for months, and in some cases years, which might fit me once more. The shock and despair of a year ago turned to delight as I tried on perfectly good trousers, blouses, jackets and one very posh frock, all of which I had truly believed I would never be able to wear again.

Kate Moss once said very memorably ‘nothing tastes as good as skinny feels’, well I’d say ‘nothing beats being able to fit back into old clothes’, so I thought you might like to see some of the outfits that I put together last weekend - and - unbelievably - even my shoes are more comfortable, although, happily my vast array of earrings always fit me no matter what!

Feeling stronger and more stream-lined!
