Street Style Fashion - Anything But Black

First of all black is a symbol of mourning, grief and death. ‘Widow’s weeds’ are invariably black and chosen to signify the loss of someone close to you. Secondly, black is a very difficult colour for most to wear as it complements few skin tones except the most cool. And thirdly black accentuates hollows and cavities in older faces in a way that fresh, bright colours do not.
So, to inspire you to embrace colour in your outerwear and to brighten up these grey, dark winter days, we launched a Street Style Fashion competition called ‘Anything But Black’.
We’ve received over 100 fabulous entries to the competition via our Tricia’s Super Trooper Facebook Group and today I thought I’d share a selection with you and also announce our five winners of a Look Fabulous Forever Christmas Collection. A huge thanks to all of you for participating so enthusiastically and congratulations to our five finalists.

Brilliant. So inspirational. I hadn’t realised how much I would appreciate seeing how older women looking great. It’s really difficult to know how to dress to suit our changing body shape. Unfortunately, my eyes are still drawn to curvey swishy little minis with broad belts, which just don’t quite work when my waist is hiding under my very ample boobs. And black used to really suit me, but alas now makes me look like a zombie. These women look absolutely great. Maybe, like make up, we need a firm with a catalogue using older models of all shapes and ages looking fabulous. Real style and attitude. But I’m not sure photographer and designers know how to dress older women.

When I wear my fushia pink winter coat people seem to smile at me more or it could be that it cheers me up so I smile at them more. A lovely splash of colour brightens up these dark and dreary days

So thrilled to be part of this. I love my pink coat but it’s currently far too cold to wear! Why don’t manufacturers bring out zingy coloured down coats like they do ski wear? Someone tell M&S!

I do wear black, but only on my lower half. My winter coats and jackets are coloured, persimmon red, bright green, raspberry red padded coat. Most recent purchase is a leopard print longish jacket, lightly padded. I do have a navy coat which can be brightened up with one of the several brightly coloured scarves i have, or not, depending on the occasion for which I'm wearing it. I've had a red coat of some sort for about twenty years or so, as black near my face does not suit me!
