How to Take the Perfect Selfie

If you have created a beautiful makeup look and want to show it off, follow these tips for taking the perfect selfie! Whether you're entering one of our competitions, sharing a before and after photo, or posting in Tricia’s Super Troopers on Facebook, these tips will help you capture a beautiful selfie…

Step by Step Guide...

Step 1 - Finish with Translucent Powder

Step 1 - Finish with Translucent Powder

A quick sweep of Translucent Powder over your finished makeup look will eliminate any shine, ensuring your selfie looks flawless and photo ready.

Step 2 - Find the Right Lighting

Step 2 - Find the Right Lighting

Good lighting is key to a great selfie. Natural daylight is great for selfies; midday light or the soft glow of golden hour (just after sunrise or before sunset) works well. If you’re indoors, face a window or a light source like a ring light or lamp. Avoid fluorescent lighting, as it can cast unflattering blue or green hues

Step 3 - Smile Naturally

Step 3 - Smile Naturally

A genuine smile brightens your whole face. Whether you prefer showing your teeth or not, practice in front of a mirror to see what feels most natural. If your lips feel tense, take a deep breath and exhale to relax. Let your eyes smile too by gently lifting your forehead and eyebrows to keep them open and bright.

Step 4 - Find Your Best Angle

Step 4 - Find Your Best Angle

For a flattering selfie, hold your phone slightly above eye level, and tilt your chin down slightly. Look directly into the camera (usually at the top of your phone) rather than at the screen. Experiment with different angles to see what works best for you, sometimes a slight turn of the head can make all the difference.

Step 5 - Relax and Lengthen

Stand tall and avoid hunching your shoulders. Elongate your neck and lift your chin slightly to create a sharp, defined jawline.

Step 6 - Simplify Your Background

Step 6 - Simplify Your Background

Keep the focus on you by choosing a simple, uncluttered background. A white or light coloured backdrop works best to ensure you’re the main point in the photo.

Step 7 - Taking the Photo

Step 7 - Taking the Photo

When taking the photo, try holding your phone with the same hand you use to click the camera button this way. This way, you can keep one hand free and maintain a more natural, relaxed pose.

Step 8 - Practice Makes Perfect

Step 8 - Practice Makes Perfect

Take a few moments to practice in front of a mirror. Experiment with different angles, lighting, and expressions to discover what looks best on camera. Now, you’re ready to snap that perfect selfie and showcase your fabulous look!
